Wood-working: Birdhouse Project

Turning Point Residents showcase their take on birdhouses!

Turning Point Residents in the Wood-Working class expand their creativity, while learning to build beautiful and ornamental things, as well as useful and functional everyday items.

“Each group of residents is different. Some are excited early on to take part and others take a long while to warm up to the coursework. As an instructor, it’s very rewarding when students realize that they can create anything that they can imagine, with lots of patience and hard work of course” shared Mr. Adams the Wood-Working Instructor at Turning Point.

To date, our residents in various classes, have built:

Model boats

Art pieces

Chairs

Coffee Tables

Benches

Planter boxes

Picture frames

Bookshelves

Birdhouses.

Wood-working is useful skill that can serve as a hobby and also generate income! It’s also a great way to decrease stress and help build muscle amongst many other positive benefits. Once a resident graduates from the program, they are able to take any of their projects home with them. Many of them, choosing to gift their best works to their closest relatives, sponsors, and loved ones

Executive Director, Dr. Tasheena Thomas shared, “We just love seeing the individual personalities of our residents come through in their work, and seeing the pride on their faces when they complete something special. That’s the fun part for us staff.”
