The Power of One: Giving Thanks for Community Members Who Share Their Gifts
Honoring Irma Knight-Gumbs This Thanksgiving
As Thanksgiving reminds us to pause and reflect on the many forms of generosity that shape our community, we are reminded that some of the most meaningful impact comes from individuals who choose to share the gifts they have. One shining example of this is Mrs. Irma Knight-Gumbs.
Irma’s gift has always been her passion for dental care and hygiene. Long before her current role with Collection Prevention Services, she built her knowledge working in dental offices and learning firsthand how vital good dental health is to overall well-being. Instead of keeping that expertise confined to her profession, she brings it into the community—into schools, local organizations, and anywhere she’s called to serve.
For years, Irma has made Turning Point part of her annual outreach, providing our residents not only with essential hygiene products but also with practical, empowering dental-care education. Her visits aren’t grand gestures; they are simple, thoughtful acts of service rooted in what she knows best. And yet, the impact is powerful. Our residents look forward to her warmth, her wisdom, and the sense of care she brings with every visit.
This Thanksgiving, we celebrate Irma—and everyone like her—who uses their own unique skills to enrich our community. She reminds us that you don’t need to have a lot to give a lot. Sometimes, the greatest difference comes from sharing what you already hold: your knowledge, your passion, your time, your heart.
Thank you, Irma, for showing us how one person’s gift can ripple outward and lift an entire community.
